Though medications may be required they can be avoided by changing diet and lifestyle. It is important to cure heart burn as early as possible because if left untreated it can lead to other and more complicated conditions. First you need to understand what triggers heart burn in your case. Make a note of all that you eat and then follow it up with observations of heartburn when it happens. Spicy and fatty foods, tomatoes, and citrus fruits are common known causes and you must avoid them in order to cure heart burn. Smoking also causes this pain so quitting is recommended if you wish to cure heart burn. Alcohol is another reason for heartburn so you must reduce its intake as far as possible. Avoid overeating and keep your meals balanced. Do not lie down after a meal. The minimum recommended gap between a meal and going to sleep is 2 hours. Also try and elevate your bed, on the pillow side, by 6 inches. Drink plenty of water to keep your body temperature regulated. In case you feel uncomfortable after a meal you should drink some soda or take an antacid as they will relieve you of the gas. In case you have heartburn then mix one tablespoon of baking soda into one cup of water and drink this mixture. This is not a permanent cure for heart burn but it is good enough to provide temporary relief that may last as much as 24 hours. There are many antacids that are available over the counter that can be used safely. Most of these medications are good enough to give your relief for approximately 2 weeks. It is recommended that if the condition continues beyond this period then you consult a doctor immediately. Just remember that even with prescribed medication the real cure for heart burn is to alter your diet and daily habits. If you do not get much physical activity then join an exercise program. Even going for a daily walk is better than nothing. Even mild exercises that get you sweating are good for curing heartburn. |
